Fort Knox, Kentucky is located just 35 miles from Louisville, and it encompasses 109,000 acres in three Kentucky counties. It is the sixth largest urban community in the Commonwealth of Kentucky with a long rich history. Fort Knox has a population of over 40,000 Soldiers, family members and civilian employees that bond to provide for the nation’s defense. That has become one of the premier training centers in the world having a team leading the Army into the 21st century by developing cutting edge technology which enhances training, readiness, and the nation’s warfighting capabilities.
Fort Knox uniquely boasts the sole responsibility for all Soldier career management, from swearing in to departing service. Its units include Army Cadet Command, Army Human Resources Command, and Army Recruiting Command. These units, along with the 3rd Brigade of the 1st Infantry Division, the 3rd Expeditionary Sustainment Command, the 84th Training Command, Ireland Army Community Hospital, and other “Partners in Excellence” make Fort Knox the most multi-functional military base in the United States Army.
